Minten ran coast to coast for an exciting overtime victory. Minten also captained Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship.
Although Fraser Minten, a prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs, may not be well-known for his ability to break games, he proved it on Sunday.
In the fourth period, the forward for the Saskatoon Blakes called his own number and ran coast to coast, beating the goalie Reid Dyck of the Swift Current Broncos to score his second goal of the contest and the game’s overtime winner in a 3-2 triumph.

After returning from the 2024 World Junior Championship, where he captained Team Canada, the 19-year-old has been on a roll with the Blades. Minten returned to Saskatoon following his team’s devastating playoff loss, and in nine games, he has six goals and seven assists.
When Minten, the 38th overall pick of the Leafs in the second round, was added to Toronto’s opening night roster this autumn, it garnered attention. Before being sent down to junior, he appeared in four games, averaging 11:26 of ice time.
In his seven games back with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers, he scored three goals and provided seven assists. Prior to the player’s Nov. 24 trade to the Blades, he was also named club captain, a position he held for just 22 days.
After his NHL experience this year, Minten is anticipated to be a strong candidate to make the Leafs out of training camp the following year, when he might play center on the third line once more. His improved physicality and shooting skill could help him in his upcoming encounter with the Leafs, based on his achievements with the Blades.
Along with some valuable playoff experience, Minten will play for the Blades this season. With a 33-9-2-3 record, they are presently leading the WHL’s East Division.
