Just Now: Coach confirms that Tottenham star is “playing at AFCON with malaria.”

Despite testing positive for malaria, Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has been playing at AFCON, according to his manager.

Only once did Bissouma play the full 90 minutes in Mali’s two AFCON group stage matches against South Africa and Namibia. The 27-year-old did not play in their 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso in the round of 16, and he was also listed as a reserve in their disorganized quarterfinal loss to the hosts, Ivory Coast.

Since then, it has been revealed that Toulouse defender Moussa Diarra and Spurs player Tony Parker have both been playing with malaria after testing positive early in the competition. It was disclosed by Mali’s head coach Eric Chelle that Bissouma and Diarra were afflicted with the same disease.
