Playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on Team McDavid, getting giddy about his first shot in the skills competition’s one-timer event, and even scoring on his teammate Jeremy Swayman, David Pastrnak had an incredible All-Star performance.
The Boston Bruins forward made a connection with Justin Bieber, a well-known Toronto Maple Leafs supporter, while he was understandably heckled at his rival Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Four Maple Leafs players led Team Matthews, which was coached by Jim Montgomery, with the Canadian singer serving as co-captain.
Pastrnak understands the significance of having someone like the Grammy winner be a part of the annual event, even though Bieber was on the opposing bench and supports one of the Bruins’ biggest rivals. Additionally, he couldn’t resist making a small jab at Bieber.
“That was really nice. He’s a very gifted individual,” Pastrnak said to the press. Of course, I love his music. That’s a little backwards because he is a Leafs fan. It was enjoyable. I managed to snap a photo of him on the ice and in the room. Very unique. The players are all grateful that he is a hockey fan. When someone like this values what we do, it improves our game.
Before the Maple Leafs and Bruins played in Game 7, in 2019, Bieber expressed his optimism for a victory on Instagram. After Boston defeated Toronto, Pastrnak made fun of Justin Bieber on social media by writing, “Not today @justinbieber.”
Montgomery was able to play the All-Star Game with Bieber by his side. The two were frequently seen by cameras celebrating each goal.
