Ashley Phillips, a loanee from Tottenham Hotspur, gave Plymouth Argyle another outstanding performance in the FA Cup last night.
Tuesday night, the 18-year-old received his fifth start for Argyle against Leeds United and recorded an assist.
In order to nullify Leeds’ first goal and force extra time in the fourth-round replay, Ashley Phillips set up Brendan Galloway in the 79th minute.
Leeds went on to win 4-1 after scoring three goals in extra time. However, after yet another striking performance, Phillips has gained recognition from the press.
Young Phillips of Tottenham makes an impression in the FA Cup
Phillips received a seven out of ten from Plymouth Live for his performance against Leeds last night. The publication complimented the youth and said it’s ‘easy to forget’ that he’s only eighteen.
“Under Ian Foster, has really settled in well to the role on the right of Argyle’s defensive trio,” they wrote.
“With his size and calmness in the middle of the action, it is sometimes easy to forget that the Tottenham Hotspur loan signee is only eighteen years old.
“Provided a fantastic assist for Brendan Galloway’s equalizer for Argyle.”
Spurs loanee Phillips is having a significant impact at Argyle since he joined last month.
Just last week, the defender earned praise for an accomplished display against Swansea in the Championship.
Naturally, Phillips only transferred from Blackburn Rovers to Tottenham last summer.
However, a loan transfer arrived at the right time for the young player after he was struggling for minutes during his first few months at Hotspur Way.
With five starts under his belt for the Championship team, Phillips appears to be reaping the benefits of playing first team football on a regular basis.
