England’s Silverstone Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champion, said on Wednesday that he finds it “surreal” that he is about to begin his final season with Mercedes before switching to Ferrari in 2025.

Speaking at Silverstone, the site of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton said that working with the team has been an honor. Mercedes unveiled its 2024 vehicle there.

After driving for Mercedes since 2013, Hamilton has won six of his seven championships with the team. However, he will be joining Ferrari at the end of the current campaign. F1 has been rocked by the move, which surprised Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.

It has undoubtedly been emotional, according to Hamilton. “Being here since 2013, I’ve been a member of the team for 11 years, and I’m starting my 12th, so it feels very surreal.”

Working with a group of people where you can witness the work they’re doing throughout the winter is such a privilege.
On Wednesday, Mercedes was scheduled to conduct a quick “shakedown” run at Silverstone prior to flying to Bahrain the following week for three days of pre-season testing. “Getting the team back to where we once were,” according to Hamilton, will be the main goal. “I believe these have been a challenging few years.
