The ‘goal’ of Aston Martin is not to beat Red Bull

Lance Stroll claims that Aston Martin’s “goal” for the upcoming Formula One season isn’t to defeat Red Bull, who have dominated the competition since the introduction of the current aerodynamic regulations in 2022.

Red Bull and three-time world

champion Max Verstappen have been unstoppable for the past two seasons. The only driver who wasn’t a Red Bull employee to challenge the Dutchman in the first half of 2023 was Fernando Alonso, before Aston Martin’s performance flagged.

Despite this, the Silverstone-based team demonstrated last year that they are capable of competing against the best team in the sport; according to Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows, Red Bull is “absolutely beatable”.

But rather than going after the Austrians, Stroll has pointed out that the rising team is just aiming to be the “strongest” they can be after the introduction of their 2024 F1 rival, the AMR24, on Tuesday morning.

Going forward, Stroll wants to compete for victories and take the fight to Red Bull, but this is more of a long-term goal at this point.

The Canadian understands that great outcomes are achievable when Aston Martin is operating at peak performance, and that this is their current top priority.

Stroll has revealed that Aston Martin is still hard at work behind the scenes, even though they have only recently taken the covers off their new car (a shakedown test has also been carried out). However, he also notes that a much faster car is needed to compete with Red Bull.
