Closer Liam Hendriks has agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract with the Red Sox. A mutual option for 2026 is included, and incentives in the contract have the potential to raise the total value to $20 million. Within minutes of one another, Chris Cotillo and Buster Olney tweeted the information.
Source tells me and @Sean_McAdam: Red Sox close to adding Liam Hendriks, who is here at Fenway South.

Although there are many amazing details about Hendriks as a player and a person, the 2024 Red Sox will get very little production out of this signing. After undergoing Tommy John surgery on August 2nd of last year, Hendriks is expected to return very late in the season with the Red Sox still in the running for the pennant. If all goes according to plan, though, he will play brilliantly right away and help the team to a spectacular October run.
In all likelihood, he won’t contribute any significant innings until 2025. But considering his past, that could still be very beneficial for Red Sox supporters. Hendriks is a genuine shutdown reliever who has an inspiring backstory and a bulldog mentality.
These are some fascinating details about Hendriks:
We are discussing stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and he is a cancer survivor. utterly destroyed its ass!
He’s from Australia!
He has pitched for the Twins, Royals, Blue Jays, A’s, and White Sox, among five other American League teams.
He has a 2.32 ERA, an 183 ERA+, and a 13.4 K/9 ratio since the beginning of 2019.
Liam Hendriks didn’t like this pitch to 2nd round pick Wes Kath.
