Lazio currently has the upper hand in the Champions League round of 16, while Leverkusen now leads the Bundesliga title race by eight points, with Bayern trailing behind in second.
The manager Thomas Tuchel’s future has become a media circus as a result, with the former Chelsea player now apparently headed for the chop. The caliber of the players who can take his position will determine whether Bayern does it now or at the end of the campaign.
It is yet unknown if World Cup winning legends Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer, who will be out of contract in 2025, will have their contracts renewed.
Important players Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, and Leroy Sane are also presently in doubt. At the end of the upcoming season, their contracts expire as well, and there are no plans to extend them.
Max Eberl took over as Bayern’s sporting director in March, so the team’s present lack of a director may hinder things, but it’s not a given that the latter three will stay with Bayern.
While Sane has been linked to both Barcelona and a return to the Premier League, Davies’ eventual destination at Real Madrid seems almost certain. Top players may be sacrificed this summer in order to attract good fees because Bayern is not willing to be kept hostage over new contracts.
