One of the team’s young emerging talents may soon receive an extension from the Boston Red Sox.
This offseason, Boston’s lack of movement has made headlines. With lots of work ahead of them, the Red Sox ought to add one or more players before the 2024 season begins.
Concerns over the Red Sox’s youthful core also exist. It appears that the club may still pursue offering young players like Brayan Bello and Triston Casas contract extensions, since there have been rumors to that effect.
Although it’s uncertain if an agreement will be reached, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports that the Red Sox “may be close” to a deal after recently meeting with Bello’s agents.
“In a conversation Wednesday morning at JetBlue Park, starter Brayan Bello said his agents have been engaged in extension talks with the Red Sox in recent weeks and that a deal may be close between the sides,” Cotillo stated. “Mas o menos” (more or less, or maybe) is how Bello (via interpreter Carlos Villoria BenÃtez) said when asked if a deal was really near. When asked if a contract might be reached before the conclusion of spring training, he likewise gave the remark “maybe.”
“Despite the lack of specifics in the talk, Bello’s optimism was clear. “In the previous three weeks,” he claimed, his reps have had conversations with front desk staff.”
The Red Sox’s rookie starter was undoubtedly a shining point during the previous year. Bello had a strong season with 28 starts. Though it has been difficult for Boston to retain its own talent, things may be about to change.
