Following three intense testing days that both addressed and raised a number of new preseason questions, the focus of the Formula 1 world turns to the Bahrain Grand Prix of 2024.
With his 1:29.921 lap on day two, Carlos Sainz set a new record. In the last session, Charles Leclerc also broke new records, giving Max Verstappen’s one-second lead on day one some competition.
Even though Sainz beat Verstappen’s pole position time from a year ago by four tenths, Red Bull is still the favorite going into the inaugural Rawe Ceek of 2024. Sainz had surpassed Sergio Perez’s pace-setting lap from 2023 testing. How close are the others, though? And which among their opponents poses the greatest threat?

It is crucial to clarify that this is not a constructors’ championship forecast. A season is a long time in sports, and this is particularly true in front of the longest Formula One campaign ever.
Preseason is the shortest it has ever been in the homologated era, meaning that, as McLaren demonstrated in 2023, the first part of the season is essentially an extension of testing, with plenty of chances to make up ground later in the season.
No prizes for figuring out which spot we got right in the final constructors’ championship in this exercise last season, but we did nail a lot improved One spot in the post-Bahrain Grand Prix team rankings that is correct.
