Steelers Make Unexpected Trade for New QB with…
Due to injuries and inconsistent play in the first two years of the Kenny Pickett era, the Pittsburgh Steeler may decide to replace him this offseason.
While Justin Fields’ possible trade destination to Pittsburgh has been discussed, the Steelers have another option—and it might still involve the Chicago Bears—to acquire a new signal-caller.
The Steelers make a major move up the board in the most recent CBS Sports NFL mock draft of 2024, trading up from the No. 20 pick inside the top 10 and switching places with the Bears to select Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 9 pick.
Although the terms of the trade remain unclear, it doesn’t seem likely that the Steelers would trade up into the top 10 for this year’s fourth-best quarterback. However, he is still untested as a passer after playing in a run-heavy offense that rarely asked him to win games with his arm.
The Steelers’ top pick this year appears to be more likely to go to a cornerback or offensive lineman; they may have to move up a few spots to select their top prospect, as they did with offensive tackle Broderick Jones last year.
It’s also difficult to see the Bears pulling off this trade, given that in this mock draft, Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze was still available when they made the decision to take a significant drop down to the No. 20 pick.
