This weekend, the Crimson Tide defeated Valparaiso in three games to increase their record to 8-0. A run regulation that was agreed upon caused all three games to be shortened.
Over the weekend, the Crimson Tide baseball team defeated the visiting Valparaiso Beacons in three games, improving their record to 8-0 for the year. Valpo finished the year 2–5. The Tide won all three games in seven innings, 14-2, 13-3, and 11-1, by run rule.
Won 14-2 in 6 1⁄2 innings in the first game.
Alabama’s finest Game one featured a matchup between Griffin McCluskey and Ben Hess representing the Beacons. Hess struck out the next two batters and concluded the inning with a fly out in the top of the first following a walk to the leadoff hitter. McCluskey struck out two and allowed a fly ball to end a perfect first inning. In the second, Hess was flawless, but McCluskey wasn’t quite as fortunate.
Hodo, Evan Sleight, and Guscette each drove in three consecutive two-out singles to score the fourth run of the inning, giving the team a 10-2 lead.
After pitching 69 pitches over the first four innings, Hess gave up two runs on four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tide scored two more runs. LeBron took the field first and advanced on a McCants single. LeBron scored on a throwing error made by catcher Kade Reinertson after McCants stole second base. Then McCants came galloping home on an Ian Petrutz single.
