Dallas cowboys finally agreed to sign new RB worth $30.5million today.sportscenter2.com

The Dallas Cowboys, who lost to the Green Bay Packers in this year’s playoffs are looking to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. Jerry Jones and the front office have chosen to stick with Head Coach Mike McCarthy and hope to make another run at the Lombardi trophy next season.

However, Dallas is entering a period of financial instability. Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his current deal and will have a massive cap hit for the 2024 season.

This could be a major issue considering the holes in the roster and having pending free agents in Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, Stephon Gilmore and others.

NFL Insider: In order to avoid a cap hit, the Dallas Cowboys should extend Dak Prescott’s contract.

Prescott’s current contract has a significant cap charge, therefore according to Cowboys Insider Jon Machota, Dallas should extend it to free up cap space for the upcoming campaign.

Prescott, who is about to enter the final season of his current contract, has not indicated that the Cowboys are considering parting ways with him right now. It is quite likely that he will sign a new contract early next month. He would count just under $60 million against the Cowboys’ 2024 limit if his contract is kept in place, which would make it challenging to make any roster improvements outside of the draft.

In the near future, the Cowboys will have other contracts besides Prescott’s to think about. Therefore, by extending him, Dallas has more leeway to make improvements to their locker room after this year’s draft. At the beginning of the upcoming season, the Cowboys will have Trevon Diggs’ five-year, ninety-seven-million dollar contract. However, they still need to think about safeguarding the futures of All-Pros Micah Parsons and Ceedee Lamb.
