MLB Rumors: Red Sox Sign All-Star First Ba…

It is said that the Red Sox have improved their lineup with some much-needed power and balance.

Multiple reports state that Boston is signing veteran first baseman C.J. Cron. Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com first revealed the signing. It’s a minor league contract, The Athletic reports.

Cron, a former first-round selection, split his 71 games with the Angels and Rockies in the previous campaign. With an OPS of.729, the 34-year-old smacked 12 home runs and drove in 37 runs.

The Red Sox are hoping he can return to his 2022 form as an All-Star with the Rockies. In 2022, Cron hit 29 home runs and scored 102 runs for Colorado, a career high.

That was one year after he played in 142 games with the Rockies and recorded a career-best.905 OPS. He’s also not necessarily a product of Coors Field, as seen by his career-high 30 home run season with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.

If Cron leaves the major club, it’s unknown what position he’ll play, but he might be a good backup for Triston Casas, who is anticipated to have a breakthrough season in 2024.
