Greg Newsome on Trade Interest To The NFC Team after….sportscenter2.com

The Cleveland Browns have been patient with young cornerback Greg Newsome II’s development over the last three seasons.

In 2023, he recorded 14 passes defensed and two interceptions, one of which he recovered for a touchdown, indicating modest progress.

However, there are reports that the Browns, who selected Newsome with the No. 26 pick in 2021, may be open to dealing the reliable starter. Free agency is set to begin throughout the NFL.

As per the tweet from Jeff Risdon of MoreForYouCleveland, the Detroit Lions have expressed interest in acquiring Newsome through trade.

The Lions had a strong season in 2023, going 12-5 to win the NFC North and advancing to the NFC Championship Game, where they led the San Francisco 49ers by double digits before losing in the second half.

They hadn’t had a season as successful as this in a decade, but there seems to be opportunity for growth, particularly on defense.

Despite having one of the best offenses in the NFL, Detroit’s pass defense was very poor, and they only allowed 23 points per game.

In contrast, the Browns’ defense played a major role in helping them reach 11-6 in 2023 despite the season-ending injuries to quarterback Deshaun Watson and star running back Nick Chubb.

They established a reputation as a team that mucks things up, finishing first in both total yards allowed and first downs surrendered.

It will be interesting to see how Cleveland plays if Newsome is moved.
