Just Now: Red Sox already replace Alex Cora With…
As the Boston Red Sox prepare for Alex Cora’s final season as manager, the team might already be planning their turn around.
According to a report this week by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Andrew Bailey is considered as Cora’s replacement should he decide to leave after the 2024 campaign. A few months ago, Bailey, a former player for the Red Sox, was brought on as their new pitching coach.
Cora is in his sixth season as Red Sox manager after leading Boston to the 2018 World Series championship. Due to his involvement in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, he was briefly let go by the team for the 2020 campaign, but he was brought back in 2021. As Boston manager, Cora has a record of 440-370 (.543), but has now dropped to below.500 and failed to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons.
Heyman continues, “It appears that Cora and newly appointed Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow want to spend a season getting to know one another before talking about a potential new contract.” Cora’s asking price for this kind of deal might be very high as well, which could make Bailey, a 39-year-old rising star, the clear successor in Boston.
