Report: 49ers add Key Player to their coaching staff
This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have been trying to return to their traditional methods, and the addition of Mick Lombardi to the team has strengthened that idea.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area revealed on Thursday night that Lombardi will be joining the 49ers coaching staff in 2024. The reporter was informed of the news by coach Kyle Shanahan, who did not yet declare victory.
The 49ers have not yet made the addition public, just as they have not made the announcement about other defensive coaching hires made this summer.

Prior to joining the 49ers in 2016, Mick Lombardi collaborated closely with Jim Harbaugh there. Along with the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, and the Las Vegas Raiders, he has had a number of offensive coaching positions. He was part of the Raiders cleaning house when he was let go in the middle of the previous season, after serving as Josh McDaniels’ offensive coordinator in Vegas.
The renowned front-office executive Mike Lombardi, who occasionally collaborated with both the 49ers and Mike Shanahan, is the father of Mick Lombardi.
It is unknown at this moment what title the youngest Lombardi holds with the 49ers. This offseason, San Francisco saw a coach exile that disrupted both the offense and defense. The 49ers hired Brandon Staley as associate head coach and elevated Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator.
