Venus and Serena Williams’ early 1990s coach Rick Macci recently shared an intriguing anecdote about the Williams sisters’ strategies for coming back.Macci has worked with former World No.

1s Andy Roddick and Jennifer Capriati. She is a certified coach with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). From 1991 to 1995, the American served as the Williams sisters’ short-term coach at his Boca Raton, Florida, academy.

 

Being close to Venus, Serena, and their controlling father Richard Williams meant, of course, that he had firsthand knowledge of certain aspects of their game as it developed over time.

 

According to his most recent post on X (formerly Twitter), one such strategy was to return their opponents’ second serves while positioned inside the baseline.Richard wanted his daughters to take second serves even earlier off the rise than they usually did, as Rick Macci hilariously disclosed on Monday, March 11.

 

The 69-year-old met Richard Williams at his academy in Florida last November, expressing pride in his past association with Williams Sr.
