Tiger Woods not in field for The Players Championship
Tiger Woods won’t be making his PGA Tour comeback at The Players Championship the following week. Woods was not included in the field of 144 players that the tour announced for the main event that takes place at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, next week.
Since 2019, he has not participated in The Players. Last month, Woods made his 2024 debut at the Genesis Invitational, which he hosts at Riviera Country Club outside of Los Angeles.
It was his first official tournament since he had ankle surgery and withdrew from the Masters the previous year. However, his comeback was cut short as he had to withdraw due to illness on the seventh hole of his second round. Woods was treated with an IV for influenza, as was later discovered.
The 15-time major winner expressed his intention to play one tour tournament per month from now on. The 48-year-old Woods may decide to take it easy now and be ready for the Masters, which are set for April 11–14.
Earlier this week, Woods participated in the one-day pro-member tournament at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida. Seth Waugh, CEO of PGA of America, collaborated with him at the event, which usually draws prominent PGA Tour players.
