Birmingham City key player finds new club after…
The 30-year-old was once a fan favorite and a consistent member of the squad, but he fell out of favor at York. Earlier in the season, he was sent on loan to Hartlepool United, but yesterday (March 15) he finalized his permanent departure.
Hancox was not a free agent for very long even though it was mutually agreed that his contract would be terminated. Altrincham, who presently occupy the seventh spot in the National League standings, have acquired him.
The Robins released the following statement: “Phil Parkinson has brought experience and pedigree to Altrincham’s engine room after acquiring Mitch Hancox, a former midfielder for Birmingham City, from York City. The move is pending FA and National League approval.”
“With a wealth of experience in both the Football League and the Vanarama National League, the 30-year-old, who plays left-back as well as central midfield, is a welcome addition to the squad as the Robins look to reinforce their quest for a play-off place over the final month or so of the season.
“Originally from Solihull, Mitch—who will wear number 26 for Alty—went through the Birmingham youth system with current Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland. After graduating to the senior squad, he made 40 appearances in the first team for the Championship club before signing a contract in August 2016 to play for Macclesfield Town in the National League.
