Novak Djokovic surprises young athletes at…

The National Skiing Championships and the Eurobalkan FIS Cup competitors were welcomed by tennis legend Novak Djokovic at Kopaonik, Serbia’s largest mountain range.

Djokovic surprised the young skiers by stopping by the starting line in the morning and wishing them all a happy greeting, according to the Serbian online newsletter Niske Vesti.

The 20th Eurobalkan Cup and the National Skiing Championship are being hosted by the Nis Ski Club and the Ski Federation of Serbia at Kopaonik.

It’s interesting to note that Srdjan Djokovic, the father of Djokovic, used to be a professional skier and coach. He was employed at the popular Serbian ski resort Kopaonik, where he owns and operates a pizzeria.

Despite having taught him to ski at an early age, Novak Djokovic chose tennis as his career.

The Serbian legend has a close relationship with Kopaonik, where the Djokovic family vacationed during the summer and winter.

Additionally, Kopaonik is where a Yugoslav company chose to build tennis courts, which allowed the record-breaking 24-time Grand Slam singles champion to attend a tennis camp to hone his skills.

Djokovic was able to attend the camp under the guidance of Yugoslav tennis player Jelena Gencic.
